Learn the principles, process and skills required to set up, develop and facilitate Action Learning Sets. 

Action Learning Facilitation Essentials:  

This 3-day course provides an introduction to Action Learning and to equip you to confidently facilitate Action Learning Sets. You will leave with knowledge, experience and understanding of the Action Learning process having developed core facilitation skills.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Explain the Action Learning process, theory, roles and core principles

  • Describe the purpose of ground rules and use appropriate interventions to establish and maintain them

  • Support set members develop core questioning, listening and problem solving skills

  • Experience working in an Action Learning Set

  • Confidently facilitate Action Learning Sets

The course structure mimics that of the Action Learning cycle giving you a real experience of the process of Action Learning. It is a great tool to build collaborative working, problem-solving and learning.

Cost: £799 for self employed or organisations with a turnover of under £1M,  £899 for organisations with a turnover over £1M & £599 for students and fellows of the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE). We currently run our London open courses in partnership with the SSE at their London Bridge offices.

Stretching Your Practice 1+ day course:

Want to enhance your practice?  Looking for ways to keep your Action Learning fresh and relevant? Our Stretching Your Practice day will add a variety of new approaches to your toolkit.

This course is for facilitators who have already attended the Essentials course or have previous action learning experience.  Learn how to use pictures and images, quick fire post-it rounds, metaphors and other tools and techniques to help keep your practice fresh and engage those you are working with. 

During this experiential course you will work as a Set and practice a variety of creative ways so you have first hand experience of them. 

Included is a two-hour webinar dedicated to answering your questions on implementing and setting up Action Learning programmes.  The webinar is led by two experienced Action Learning Centre facilitators who will share ideas, tips and practical solutions to help you successfully establish Action Learning Sets.

In summary the course consists of:

ILM endorsed award in Action Learning Facilitation:

Want to be able to show your credentials and know you are competent to set up and facilitate Action Learning programmes in your organisation or for clients?

 Attending our ILM endorsed course will give you just that. To gain our ILM Endorsed award you must first attend the three day Essentials course followed by the Stretching Your Practice course. Once you have completed both and have facilitated at least one Learning Set you will submit an assignment and reflective learning journal for assessment. 

Cost for the ILM Endorsed programme is £625 or £595 for SSE Fellows.

Facilitating Action Learning virtually

Already an experienced Action Learning facilitator? Want to learn how to apply your skills to facilitate virtually? 

This two day Virtual Action Learning facilitation course for experienced facilitators is packed with information, tips and practice of facilitating virtually. 

You will explore the role of the facilitator in a virtual arena, similarities and differences to working in-person, learn how to intervene without the same physical cues and practice managing the technology and facilitating the group.   

In this participative course everyone will experience facilitating, presenting and observing.  You will have the option to continue your practice after the training, with access to a virtual meeting platform to practice as a self-facilitating group. 

Who is it for?

This course is for people who already facilitate Action Learning or have previously attended training to be an Action Learning facilitator and wish to expand their ability to offer virtual Action Learning to clients. 

Cost:  £455 private companies and corporates, £420 sole traders and 3rd sector organisations or £380 for SSE Fellows and those who previously attended the ALC 3-day course
