Case study:
Developing social enterprise leaders

The School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) provides courses and year-long programmes to budding and established social entrepreneurs.

Action Learning (AL) forms the backbone of all their programmes, as it allows the entrepreneurs to learn – by sharing the issues that arise in running their enterprises, and by listening to others discuss their challenges.

We run introductory sessions where the students learn the principles, process and skills of Action Learning. We then facilitate full day or half day Sets, either virtually or face-to-face.

AL provides a sounding board for entrepreneurs to test out ideas and connect with others, reducing isolation. It helps them bring ideas to life, maintain momentum and get to the heart of what’s going on, building their confidence and networks – and the skills, mindset and behaviours required as leaders to grow their social enterprises.

Many go on to join our Open Learning Groups after their programmes, as they value the connections, challenge and support ALS offers.

I would definitely recommend the sessions to anyone as they are truly life changing and amazing.”
