Take the next step in your Action Learning facilitation journey

Stretching Your Practice

Practice-led online programme for Action Learning facilitators who already understand the foundations. Build greater range, broaden their toolkit, and explore how to introduce tools and approaches confidently in your own Sets. It is about doing, reflecting, and applying.

Who this course is for

This programme is designed for you if who:

  • Sometimes feel you rely on the same approaches round after round
  • Already understand the core principles and structure of Action Learning
  • Have completed facilitator training or already facilitate Action Learning Sets
  • Would like a wider range of tools and approaches without losing the integrity of Action Learning
  • Value learning through practice, reflection and feedback within an Action Learning Set setting

This course does not teach the fundamentals of Action Learning. It assumes a working knowledge of Action Learning process and focuses on expanding your facilitation practice and toolkit.

      Why Stretch Your Practice

Many Action Learning facilitators reach a point where they understand the core structure and begin to notice the limits of relying on a small number of familiar interventions.

While the fundamentals remain sound, different Sets, contexts and stages of development often call for different approaches. Without a wider range of techniques, facilitators can find themselves repeating what they already know, even when something else might better support an issue holder or the Set.

Stretching Your Practice is about extending your facilitation repertoire so you have more choice. You will explore a range of techniques that can be used within Action Learning Sets to bring variety and respond more effectively to different scenarios, while staying true to the core Action Learning principles.

The programme also creates space to consider how Action Learning programmes are designed, including how and when to introduce different approaches in ways that feel purposeful, coherent and grounded in the practice rather than bolted on.

The focus is not on replacing what you already do, but on strengthening your practice by adding options, developing judgement, and refreshing how you work with Sets over time.

      Course information:

      How the course works

Stretching Your Practice is a practical programme.

You will work with a range of tools and techniques that support deeper reflection, clearer exploration and stronger group process. You will try these approaches in live facilitation rounds and take part in structured debriefs that explore what each tool offers, when it is most useful, and how to introduce it simply and confidently.

The emphasis is on application rather than theory, so you leave with approaches you can use immediately in your own Sets.

How the programme works in practice

Stretching Your Practice is designed to expand your range as a facilitator, giving you more choice in how you support reflection, learning and group process in Action Learning Sets.

You will try these approaches in live, timed facilitation rounds and take part in structured debriefs that explore what each approach offers, when it is most useful, and how to introduce it simply and confidently.

      In the programme you will:

      • Learn a range of tools and techniques to support reflective questioning
      • Apply these tools in live, timed facilitation rounds
      • Take part in structured debriefs focused on what each approach offers, when to use it, and how to introduce it simply
      • Explore variations and adaptations for different groups and contexts
      • Build confidence through repeated practice and reflection
      • Clarify how to use tools without diluting core Action Learning principles

You will leave with approaches you can use immediately, not ideas that sit on the shelf.

      What others have said

“It’s invaluable to learn the additional ways of delivering action learning as well as having the opportunity to share and practice with other facilitators.”

      Marie Faulkner

“I thoroughly enjoyed the Stretching Your Practice course. The training was rich and powerful. Before taking this course, I felt comfortable with the basics of Action Learning, but this course has moved me on in a big way. It’s not only given me more confidence to use different tools and techniques, it’s really helped me to be clear about when to use them and how to introduce them.”

      Rose Garnder

This course presented a variety of additional tools to use with sets during action learning. It was great to have the time and space to test these out in a supportive environment and have chance to share tips and ideas with other facilitators.”
